When I heard about Matron Fine Beer in Bloomfield, Prince Edward County, I knew I had to see it for myself.

When it comes to craft beer, I’m always on the hunt for breweries that can offer something different.

We decided to take a road trip to Bloomfield and let me tell you, I wasn’t disappointed.

So there is a bit of a drive down a long dirt laneway and the signage was that clear out front.

Once you arrive the building looks like an old steel shed but don’t be fooled the inside is all newly renovated.

So, pull up a chair, grab a pint, and let me take you on a virtual tour of my visit to Matron Fine Beer.

Types of Matron Fine Beer

  • Saison
  • IPA
  • Stouts
  • Vienna Lager – My Fave
  • Pilsner
  • Sour
  • Lagers

They have some interesting names for the beer like,

Jank IPA – This is a medium-bodied IPA with floral and citrus notes.

The Matron Handsome Zoiglbier – Is a light malt lager with a hint of hops on the finish.

Matron Yeasayer – A cool name that is a straightforward lager with a light hop accent at the end.

Matron Bobo Farmhouse Wheat– A fruity Saison with hints of floral and delicate minerality but a dry finish.

Dapper Vienna Lagerbier – By far my favorite beer here atMatron. Tastes like a light Octoberfest beer. Light malts, dark ale with a crisp finish.

When We Arrived At Matron Brewery

Matron Brewery

We arrived at Matron Fine Beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and the first thing we noticed was the rustic setting of an old metal barn.

The rustic setting immediately put us at ease, and we couldn’t wait to see what the brewery had to offer.

As we entered the building, we were greeted by a friendly bartender who offered us a sample of their flagship beer, the “YEASAYER LAGERBIER” a very much straightforward lager with a light hop accent and balanced malt character.

It was the perfect beer to start off the visit, with its light but a complex taste for a lager beer in my opinion.

We were then given a tour of the brewery and learned about its unique brewing process, which involves using fresh spring water from the farm.

They mention their dedication to sourcing local ingredients, which gives their beers a distinct flavor that you won’t find anywhere else.

The Tasting Room

The taproom does offer a wide selection of beers including light lagers to dark stouts, and sour beer.

I personally enjoyed the “DAPPER” a Vienna Lagerbier, which had a dark malt, velvety texture, and a hint of “OMG”.

As we sipped our beers, we couldn’t help but admire the decor of the taproom.

The space was designed with a modern, industrial feel but also had touches of warmth with its wooden accents and comfortable seating. It was the perfect ambiance to relax and enjoy a cold brew.

My Overall Experience at Matron Fine Beer

Overall, my visit to Matron Fine Beer was interesting at the least.

One thing to keep in mind is the can size which is small at 355 ml compared to the 473 ml for the same price at many other local breweries in the county.

From the unique beers, it was clear that a lot of thought and care went into every aspect of the brewery.

If you’re ever in Prince Edward County, I highly recommend taking a trip to Matron Fine Beer.

Trust me when I say, a sip of their beer is like a sip of heaven.
